Glaucoma is a condition that causes damage to your eye’s optic nerve and gets worse over time. It’s often associated with a buildup of pressure inside the eye. Glaucoma tends to be inherited and may not show up until later in life.

Hello, my name is Dr. Steven Reinders owner and optometrist of the Burnsville eye clinic, serving the areas of Prior Lake, Savage, Eagan, and Apple Valley.

Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases in which excessive eye pressure causes optic nerve damage and subsequent vision loss.

If properly diagnosed, vision loss from glaucoma is completely preventable with relatively simple treatments.

However the only way to get a proper glaucoma diagnosis is to have an eye care professional measure the pressure inside of your eyes on a regular basis, so make a thorough eye examination part of your annual checkups.

During your comprehensive eye examination, pressures inside of your eyes will be measured. This is a painless procedure called tonometry.

If the pressure in your eye is outside of normal limits, we’ll probably perform some specialized tests including an extended visual field test (perimetry) which precisely measures your peripheral vision as well as a detailed inspection of the outflow mechanism for the fluid inside your eyes.

Only after these specialized eye tests for glaucoma can we determine a course of action and required treatment.

Glaucoma, like many other eye diseases, is much easier to treat if caught early. Once the optic nerve is damaged, your vision will never recover, even if treatment is started.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the foremost cause of vision loss in the U.S., with millions of Americans showing some sign of the disorder. AMD is uncommon in people younger than 55. If you are over 65, macular degeneration may already affect your central vision — the vision you need for close work like reading and sewing.

Burnsville Optometrist Opinion On If Carrots Are Good For Your Eyes. Eye Doctor Near Burnsville

Complete Family Eyecare | 13971 W. Preserve Blvd. Burnsville MN 55337 | (952) 562-8116 | https://completeeyecaremn.com

Hello, I’m Dr. Steven Reinders, optometrist and owner of Complete Family Eyecare in Burnsville MN.

Today’s Eyeball Fact or Fiction is…

Eating lots of carrots will reduce my need for eye glasses and make my eyes stronger.

The answer to this myth is…

FALSE

This is yet another untruth that your mother told you in an attempt to eat your vegetables.

Even though beta carotene, which is found in carrots, is a key component to proper retinal function, and other bodily metabolisms, excessive consumption can cause beta carotene poisoning, which will literally turn your skin and whites of the eyes orange.

Next time you come in for an eye examination, tell us you saw this video. We love patients who come into our Burnsville eye clinic and tell us how much they love our videos.

Proper amounts of beta carotene can be found in many other vegetable sources besides carrots.

Beta carotene…please enjoy in moderation!

Burnsville Eye Doctor Explains How Beer Goggles Make You Look More Attractive

Complete Family Eyecare | 13971 W. Preserve Blvd. Burnsville MN 55337 | (952) 562-8116 | https://completeeyecaremn.com

Hello, I’m Dr. Steven Reinders, optometrist and owner at Complete Family Eyecare in Burnsville MN.

Today’s eyeball fact or fiction is…

Beer goggles are a physiological reaction to alcohol.

The answer is…..

YES

Beauty is definitely in the eye of the BEERholder

Beer goggles are not a myth, but a scientifically explained phenomenon.

An area in the brain called the nucleus accumbens decides how attractive another human’s face is. So if you look at Brad Pitt or Kate Upton, this area of the brain experiences increased neural firing as it is stimulated.

Recent research by scientists with WAY too much time on their hands have shown that alcohol stimulates this area of the brain all by itself, so when intoxicated, the faces that you would not deem attractive when sober suddenly become very attractive.

Next time you’re at the bar, if someone tells you how beautiful you are, ask them if their nucleus accumbens is being over-stimulated by the dozen or so drinks they have consumed.

Beer goggles…..making everyone look goodfor the last 3,000 years!

Complete Family Eyecare | 13971 W. Preserve Blvd. Burnsville MN 55337 | (952) 562-8116 | https://completeeyecaremn.com

Hello, my name is Dr. Steven Reinders owner and optometrist of the Burnsville eye clinic, serving the areas of Eagan, Savage, and Apple Valley.

Today’s eyeball fact or fiction is…

Can video games damage my eyes?

Patients to our eye clinic coming in for an eye examination, contact lens prescription or eyeglass prescription often ask me this question. As I tell them, and as I provide my professional optometrist opinion here…

It’s highly unlikely that someone at Sony or Microsoft will encourage you to use a product that will damage your eye.

I guess the answer to this myth is NO, although this is probably not the answer that most parents want to hear, no scientific study has ever shown that no video game has ever created permanent eye problems or eyeglass needs.

So, feel free to stay glued to your couch, in your fantasy land, destroying mythical creatures with mystical spells and rocket launchers.

Game on!

As you consider the choices for your eye examination needs in the Burnsville MN area, you’ll discover that while there are many choices of eye clinics here in Burnsville, you will be drawn to the expertise of our eye doctor.

Burnsville Optometrist Explains How Marijuana Can Help Glaucoma

Complete Family Eyecare | 13971 W. Preserve Blvd. Burnsville MN 55337 | (952) 562-8116 | https://completeeyecaremn.com

Hello, I’m Dr. Steven Reinders, optometrist and owner at Complete Family Eyecare in Burnsville MN.

Today’s question is “Does smoking marijuana help to lower pressure in the patients with glaucoma?”

The answer is YES.

However, using the correct eye drops are more effective in lowering the eye pressure without the uncomfortable side effects of weight gain due to the munchies, the inability to get off the couch…and incarceration in most states.

If you or a loved one have glaucoma, and consulting Mary Jane as a treatment, I suggest you see your eye care professional for more legal treatments.

When you come into our Burnsville eye clinic for a thorough eye examination, our optometrist will make recommendations for treatment of your glaucoma condition.
